about

EAT OR BE EATEN: three tracks of chill hypnotic-grooves, collaged keyboard synth-pop and positive-affirmations in music. The title track, "Eat or Be Eaten", a sample-driven skank where sub-aquatic arps lurk beneath triumphant flute leads nagged on by vamping Juno-chords.
"Night Business" a bopping synth-pop anthem, Power Nap as protagonist exclaiming the virtues of nocturnal commerce. A droll observation slowly revealing itself to be a cosmic vision-quest, exploding the idea of AfterDark™ headphone independence.
Book ending the EPs exploration of production and process as concept, is "Abstract Pizza", a throbbing analog synth work-out. Storming bass-lines layered with curious and probing arpeggiation conversing with each other in an alien yet EBM-inducing language.

POWER NAP is Chris Cudby, one half of New Zealand synth-duo GOLDEN AXE (See also Liquid Bacon out on AMDISCS goldenaxe.bandcamp.com/album/liquid-bacon). EAT OR BE EATEN is the follow up to 2012's JUST DO IT, also out via CMR (crystalmagic.bandcamp.com/album/just-do-it).

EAT OR BE EATEN is a concept-record riffing on Production, each track playing with a distinct process of music making, from track ones sample driven grooves, to In-Box VST instrument-emulation net-pop to the tactile workouts produced by hardware synthesisers. Elevating the EP from artsy-concept is POWER NAP'S unique ability to imbue his productions with a strong POP narrative whilst intrepidly exploring more OUT THERE environs. Glued together with humanistic mundane work-place observations and augmented with the swell and crash of WAVE-FORM generators.
